BIOGRAPHY

Associate Professor David Clark gained his MBBS with 1st Class Honours, from Monash University in 1990. He obtained his Fellowship of the Australasian College of Physicians in 1997, specialising in cardiology through Austin Health. He completed a further two year fellowship in interventional cardiology at Yale University, USA with additional study Boston in peripheral vascular disease and carotid stenting.

In 2013, he obtained his Doctorate of Medical Science through Melbourne University, for his thesis “The Clinical Utility of Single and Multicentre Registries in Interventional Cardiology.” The work details the development of registries in Interventional Cardiology to study key areas including : acute intervention for myocardial infarction, complex coronary lesions, drug-eluting stents, carotid stenting,  cardiogenic shock, coronary disease and obesity, and comparison of stenting with coronary artery bypass grafting.

Since 2001, he has been an interventional cardiologist at Warringal Private Hospital and Austin Health where he is Director of Interventional Cardiology Research and Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine. He has mentored many Melbourne and overseas interventional cardiologists and has had a role in establishing invasive and interventional cardiology at the Northern Hospital and Bendigo Health.

In his private practice, at 226 Burgundy Street, Heidelberg and 260 Cotham Road, Kew, he sees the full spectrum of cardiology patients whilst maintaining his sub-specialty focus in Intervention. He places great emphasis of evidence based cardiology with the additional goal that patients fully understand the reasons for different cardiac investigations and treatments.

He is part of the Heidelberg Heart Centre, a new and growing non-invasive cardiology service offering echocardiography, holter monitors, blood pressure monitors, and in 2017, stress testing and stress echocardiography.

David is married with three teenage children and enjoys running marathons, snow skiing, holidays and family time. He also enjoys reading, although this usually takes the form of cardiology manuscripts and following the fortunes of the Geelong Football Club.
